Miguel Ramos, Diversity Director with the Minnesota Twin and Sarena Lim, President of a multi-billion dollar unit of Cargill, Inc, inspired hundreds of young professionals at the Connect Asia event organized by the India Association of Minnesota on Saturday, May 14, 2106.
Miguel Ramos shared his rags-to-riches story – his journey from Puerto Rico to Minneapolis Saint Paul. From a teenager seeking to break out from an environment of poverty to his work with the Minnesota Twins and recent appointments to boards and foundations. His most poignant message to the young professionals was – “Let’s break down barriers that divide us and build bonds that connect us. We need that collective energy to take our communities to the next level.”
Sarena Lin shared her immigrant story from the Ivy League schools and corporate boardrooms to her current leadership of a multi billion dollar unit of Cargill, Inc with a footprint in 30 countries. “When you are chosen to be a leader you are not called to solve problems, you are called to empower and inspire your team” was Lin’s insight. She also encouraged business leaders to be active in building their local communities.
The Master of Ceremony for the evening were Valton Henderson and Hillary Swanson from BlueCross BlueShield of Minnesota together with the team of Connect Asia, Nasreen Shaikh, Chithra Binoy, Hasim Khorakiwala and Sree Kamojjala.
Youth at the Julia Dance Group entertainment everyone with a wide range of dances from South and South East Asia.
