On August 15, 2015 as Minnesotans celebrated India Fest at the State Capitol, the Consul General of India in Chicago, Dr. Ausaf Sayeed was celebrating India’s Independence day with a wide range of dignitaries at the Union League Club of Chicago. Dr. Sayeed paid special tribute to Governor Mark Dayton for proclaiming the day, India Day in Minnesota and to India Fest organized by the India Association of Minnesota. Governors of Illinois and Indiana as well as the Mayor of Chicago, Rahm Emmanuel celebrated the Indian community for their many contributions but it was only Minnesota’s tribute to its Asian Indian Minnesotans that stood out in the form of the special proclamation by Governor Dayton. This act of leadership by Governor Dayton was much appreciated and celebrated.

India Fest, an annual event organized by the India Association of Minnesota aims to share the rich cultural traditions and assets with the people of Minnesota. This years theme said it well, “Experience India in a Day.”

Dr. Sayeed in his speech noted the many contributions Asian Indians made to the US including an  interesting fact – about 1 in 7 Americans are served by a doctor of Indian origin.
